About This Course

With the 2025 Federal Budget expanding the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program, now is the time to ensure you understand how these incentives work — and how your clients or organization can benefit.

Under the Income Tax Act, SR&ED is defined as: “A systematic investigation or search…carried out in a field of science or technology by means of experiment or analysis…for the advancement of scientific knowledge or for the purpose of achieving technological advancement by creating new, or improving existing, materials, devices, products or processes, including incremental improvements thereto.”

In this session, our expert instructor breaks down what SR&ED really means in practice — and how to identify and support eligible activities. You’ll gain insights into current CRA approaches, common misconceptions, and how to make the most of available credits and complementary programs.

Topics include:

  • What qualifies as SR&ED
  • 2024 program statistics and trends
  • Eligible expenditures and recovery rates
  • The “why” and “how” of claiming SR&ED
  • Eligibility criteria and documentation requirements
  • Common misconceptions and pitfalls
  • Stacking incentives with other funding programs
  • The application process and CRA review focus areas
  • Recent and upcoming changes
  • Other selected tax credits and government grants

Whether you’re advising clients or preparing claims yourself, this session will help you stay ahead of the curve and approach SR&ED with clarity and confidence.
