About This Course

The purpose of this course is to understand how to prevent an accountant from being sued by a client for an income tax planning mandate. There has been both an increase in the number and dollar amount of lawsuits against accountants for income tax planning matters over the last couple of years because of the increasingly complex realm of income tax (income tax was already the most litigated area in the accounting field).

The following topics will be addressed:

  • The importance of an engagement letter.
  • The importance of sourcing facts and assumptions.
  • 21-year trust trackers.
  • Who is responsible for filing elections / how do you keep track of filing elections on time?
  • Who is responsible for filing T5s?
  • How do you keep track of the T5 filing and alert the accountant?
  • Hot CRA audit areas including, but not restricted to, trusts.
  • Income Tax Practice Management
