About This Course

There is a growing interest in the measurement of social impacts (effectiveness) across the non-profit sector. In this course we shall see effectiveness as how close we are to reaching our mission or purpose. Measuring is important as it helps us understand the program, exercise control, and then make improvement.

Non-profit organisations exist to serve a higher purpose. Hence we need to find out if we are making a difference in the community we serve. Is anyone better off as a result of our blood, sweat and tears? In other words, is our strategy achieving its purpose? We need a pragmatic approach to quantify our success. Hence, we shall explore various measurement frameworks and their limitations.

So where does this leave finance professionals? With funding challenges coming to the fore there has not been a better time than this for finance professionals. Finance teams have for long been the managers of data, reporting and setting performance metrics. They have a better view of the organisation, its risks and opportunities. They are best placed to partner with programs and research teams and leverage their skills to add rigour to the measurement process.

This course will place you in a better position to work alongside program teams to leverage your skills to measure social outcomes.
