About This Course

Part 1 – In this section, 5 Ways to Coach for Best Performance, psychologist Peter Quarry outlines practical skills for optimal performance: determine the coaching goal, clarify specific expectations, build skills and enhance strengths, encourage and boost confidence and challenge and develop motivation. The benefits of coaching: engenders higher levels of engagement, boosts confidence, enhances communications skills, stimulates in-depth learning and increases sense of safety in the workplace.

Part 2 – This section, Coaching and Mentoring Skills, includes three videos. In Coaching and Mentoring New People a dramatized case study shows Sam and Michael giving Dion constructive feedback. Alex coaches Dion on how to answer the phone properly. Being a good coach and mentor is all about giving time and encouragement and offering practical steps to build skills. How to Mentor features psychologists Eve Ash and Peter Quarry demonstrating two mentoring sessions, one of an initial meeting and one of a later session, showing practical strategies and skills. Implement Reverse Mentoring provides best practice tips for implementing reverse mentoring. It’s a way for younger colleagues to share ideas and knowledge with older counterparts – a proven way for different generations to share ideas and learn from each other.

Part 3 – Covers Essential Supervision Skills and includes two dramatized comedy scenario videos. In Supervising Effectively, supervision mistakes are being made – Marcus is vague, Carol bullies and gives poor feedback and Serena makes the fatal mistake of starting an inappropriate discussion with Carol because she is attracted to a client. Learn to avoid classic mistakes and develop effective supervision using goals to achieve results, measuring success, listening and supporting staff, acknowledging good work and focusing on building skills. Handling the New Wave explores the expectations and behaviors of the newest recruits and how to manage them.
