About This Course

This course will examine the latest developments in solar PV panels, mounting methods, inverter capabilities, energy storage, and monitoring and diagnostics.

The course begins by exploring significant PV industry trends and statistics, including growth across residential, non-residential, and utility-scale sectors, and analyzing the impact of legislative changes like the Inflation Reduction Act. We then delve into the economic landscape of solar PV, examining the dramatic cost reductions, various incentives available, and the factors influencing project profitability.

Key topics covered in this illuminating course include:

  • Evolution of PV industry trends and statistics, identifying growth drivers and market shifts.
  • Insights into solar PV economics, including cost reduction analysis and navigating complex incentive structures.
  • Groundbreaking solar industry innovations, such as wearable solar, aesthetically integrated PV solutions (e.g., solar roofs and walkways), black silicon, half-cut cells, and PERC PV technology.
  • Exploration of emerging materials like perovskite for higher efficiency cells and the potential of solar windows.
  • Latest advancements in module recycling and sustainable practices within the industry.
  • New developments in mounting methods, from adhesive systems for flat roofs to floating solar arrays and creative urban installations.
  • Component improvements and trends, including a detailed look at inverter topologies (string, microinverters, DC optimizers) and their evolving functionalities like IV curve tracing.
  • Discussions on energy storage solutions, covering the transition from lead-acid to lithium-ion batteries, innovative stackable battery designs, and containerized systems for large-scale applications.
  • Innovations in performance estimating, from advanced computer modeling and drone-based analysis to sophisticated software tools like PVsyst and SAM.
  • Improvements in balance of system components, such as inverter covers, smart load centers, and wire harnesses for enhanced efficiency and installation.
  • The role of handheld devices and apps in streamlining monitoring, commissioning, and operations & maintenance processes.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with a thorough understanding of the latest technological breakthroughs, market dynamics, and operational efficiencies in solar PV, empowering you to navigate and contribute to the future of renewable energy.
