About This Course

This online engineering PDH course describes how local governments can help achieve environmental goals by encouraging source reduction and the reuse of products and materials, as well as composting and recycling wastes generated by their communities.

These strategies are collectively known as resource conservation and recovery and have as their aim a reduction in waste management costs, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy consumption. This course describes the process of developing and implementing resource conservation and recovery measures, using real-world examples.

Topics: Source reduction and reuse Recycling Composting Waste treatment with energy recovery Landfilling and incineration without energy recovery Strategies for effective program implementation Costs and funding opportunities

Intended Audience: This course is intended for civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, and municipal engineers concerned with reducing the environmental impact of their local government through the introduction of sustainable technologies.

Publication Source: This course is based on the Environmental Protection Agency document, “Resource Conservation and Recovery, A Guide to Developing and Implementing Greenhouse Gas Reduction Programs” 2012, from the EPA’s Local Government Climate and Energy Strategy Series.
