About This Course

Build confidence with conversational English and learn grammar, language functions, everyday expressions, vocabulary and speaking practice.

Section 1: Meeting People Learn basic greetings – how to say hello, introduce yourself and introduce others; Learn simple grammar – questions using IS and ARE and converting statements to questions, e.g. "That is … " becomes "Is that …?" Master some everyday expressions and ways to say hello and goodbye. Build vocabulary of key words in everyday language related to time of day e.g. morning; afternoon etc. Listen to encouragement and suggestions to help build confidence when meeting new people. Practice speaking with examples that recap the lessons and provide opportunities to practice saying hello and goodbye.

Section 2: Family and Friends Learn to talk about family members and friends. Learn simple grammar – Possessive adjectives – my, his, her, our, your, their. Master some everyday expressions like hang out / chill out, only child, making a mess. Build vocabulary of family words, e.g. husband, partner, children. Build confidence when speaking to and about family and friends. Practice speaking with examples that recap the lessons, talking about family members, and practice the sound of TH.

Section 3: Giving Information Learn to give personal and work information. Learn simple grammar – giving details and answering WH questions: What, Where, Who, When. Master some common phrases and expressions – fingers crossed, good news, bad news. Build vocabulary of words used to describe what people look like. Practice speaking with examples that recap the lessons – giving information and asking WH questions.

Section 4: Thanks! Learn the different ways and reasons to thank someone. Learn simple grammar – Possessive ‘s’, e.g. Carol’s last name. Master some common phrases for ways to say thank you and after someone says thank you. Build vocabulary of regular and irregular plurals. Practice speaking with examples that recap the lessons – saying thank you, no thank you, and responding to thank you.
