Am I Protected? Asset Protection and Lawsuit Prevention

About This Course

We live in a highly litigious society. The more assets a person has, the more likely they are to be sued at some point. As financial professionals, it is important to understand the basic principles of asset protection in order to identify those needs for your clients. This course will help students identify asset protection needs and will familiarize them with the financial and legal tools that are used to protect someone's assets from law suits and to reduce the likelihood of getting sued in the first place. The course also includes two case studies from different states to demonstrate the practical application of asset protection planning and how the approach to planning differs depending on which state someone lives in and what assets they own.

I am a partner and managing attorney at Inter Vivos, PLLC, one of the largest estate planning law firms in the world, with attorneys licensed in all 50 states and in several other countries. My background has been in asset protection and tax planning strategies for business owners, but I focus on and oversee all aspects of a complete estate plan for clients across the country. I also own a tax strategy consulting business. I received my law degree at George Mason University and my undergraduate degree in French from Brigham Young University. I am licensed to practice law in Utah. Clients, advisers, and other professionals appreciate my responsiveness and quality of work. I speak Spanish and French in addition to my native English and can assist clients in any of those languages.
