What You'll Learn

check_circleUnderstand Stormwater Management Concepts: Gain a comprehensive understanding of stormwater management, including the importance of ponds, BMPs, and their role in protecting water quality and preventing flooding.
check_circleAnalyze Hydrology and Storm Events: Comprehend key concepts related to hydrology, storm events, and frequency analysis. Learn to use intensity-duration-frequency curves and rainfall distribution to analyze and estimate storm characteristics.
check_circleDesign Effective Stormwater Ponds: Acquire the skills to design stormwater ponds that can handle major storm events while considering factors such as retention time, emergency spillways, embankment design, and hydraulic behavior.
check_circleConsider Climate Change Impacts: Recognize the impacts of climate change on stormwater management and learn strategies for addressing uncertainties in flow estimations.
check_circleMaster Hydraulics in Open Channels: Understand the principles of hydraulics in open channels, including estimation methods, channel geometry, erosion considerations, and design considerations.
check_circleCalculate Peak Flows: Learn the rational method for calculating peak flows and apply it to real-world scenarios, considering different surfaces and runoff coefficients.
check_circleEvaluate Pond Components and Designs: Explore various pond types, from wet to dry to extended detention ponds, and understand their components, design considerations, and environmental benefits.
check_circleManage Public and Private Ponds: Differentiate between public and private stormwater ponds, and grasp the responsibilities and governance associated with each type.
check_circleAssess Pond Costs and Maintenance: Gain insights into the costs involved in building and maintaining stormwater ponds. Understand excavation, lining, geotechnical factors, and ongoing maintenance requirements.

About This Course

This comprehensive course delves into the advanced concepts of stormwater management, focusing on the integral role of ponds in mitigating flooding, enhancing water quality, and controlling erosion. Designed for engineers and professionals in the field, this course covers a range of topics, including hydrological analysis, design criteria, pond types, climate change impacts, hydraulic considerations, and both public and private pond management. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, participants will develop the expertise needed to design, implement, and maintain effective stormwater management solutions.
